Taking the Avalanche Skills Training 1 course is your first step to the world of skiing and riding in the backcountry. With local Banff mountain guide Lisa Paulson this course will provide an entry level decision making framework and teaches you the fundamentals of travelling in avalanche terrain.

Our first classroom session introduces the concepts of snow metamorphosis.

Our second classroom session introduces avalanche terrain.

Zoom Session
Our third classroom session discusses resources for decision making in avalanche terrain. We will cover online resources for avalanche and weather conditions.
January 26th 5:30 - 8PM
Zoom Session
Review the steps involved in emergency response and companion rescue.
January 29th OR 30th (TBD) Full Day
Field Session
This is a full day in avalanche terrain. We go over safe travel techniques, identification of avalanche terrain, introduce students to snowpack observation skills, and hone our emergency response and companion rescue skills using realistic scenarios.

We will discuss everyone's comfort level during our zoom sessions and decide where to go from there.
