Each Year the CAA has a bit of money to spend on education in local mountain areas, Golden, Revelstoke, and the Bow Valley. This year they have asked Lisa to teach this course.
Start: Saturday March 20th 8:30 am Meeting at the priority parking lot. Lunch break is on the front
side, 12ish. Back country ski equipment not required. Ages 11/12 and older. This is at the parents discretion.
The goal is active harm proofing athletes to avalanche risk by sharing some links to educational videos prior to the field day. On the field day, the athletes will look at terrain immediately adjacent or closed terrain within the ski area to gain an appreciation as to how it is different and may pose an avalanche risk, among other risks! We will look at the snow-
pack, snow crystals and how avalanche problems evolve. Athletes will go to the front-side for lunch. In the afternoon, kids will respond to some avalanche and back-country rescue scenarios.
They will bring home knowledge that may be helpful in any season! Athletes will remain in bounds and will not need any specialized travel equipment. All avalanche safety equipment is provided by Back-country Access (BCA).
